Resilience becomes one of main topics New Urban Agenda. As previously news, Regional Center for Community Empowerment on Housing and Urban Development (RC-CEHUD), Research Institute for Housing and Human Settlements, The Institution of Engineers Indonesia, and Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) organize a workshop about Resilience Planning and Strategic Implementation on July 23 2016 in UNTAG Campus as a parallel event at the Preparatory Committee 3 for Habitat III in Surabaya.
Over 150 participants include research scientists, academicians, local government, and students were attended. The workshop opened by Director General of The Agency for Research and Development Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Arie Setiadi Murwanto represents Minister of Public Works and Housing. “A good start to show our solidarity and global commitment to work for a better future. I invite everybody with common interest to build the partnership and strong collaboration. We live in the same planet, we have to work together,” he said.
Director of Research Institute for Housing and Human Settlements Arief Sabaruddin, Senior Advisor to the Minister for Public Works and Housing Lana Winayanti, and Vice Rector of Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Retno Hastijanti also attended the workshop.
Forum begins with presentation by Jennifer Senick from Rutgers University, Jeff Soule from American Planning Association (APA), Deputy Governor of Jakarta field of Spatial Planning and the Environment Oswar Mungkasa, and Lecturer at the Departement of Urban and Regional Planning Diponegoro University Wiwandari Handayani represents 100RC (Resilience Cities) Program of Rockefeller Foundation.
Jennifer says that the greenhouse effect has led to the extreme climate change. “We must change our society mindset. We must think about resilience,” she said.
Agree with her, Jeff says resilience becomes the main thing that should be considered related to planning when disaster strikes. “Planning and preparation strategy will reduce the cost of post-disaster recovery,” he said.
After all speaker presentations, participants were divided into small discussion moderated by Kemal Taruc and Jeff.
